The
Brazos Valley AGD Component began life as a study club in the early 1980's.
Members traveled to Brenham once a month and met at the office of Jim Ross
DDS, FAGD. Each member took their turn hosting a speaker or providing a topic
of disscussion. Somewhere between friendship and food, it was proposed that
the group become an AGD component so that study club hours might count toward
Fellowship. Many of the study club members were not AGD members, but became
members as a result of the component formation. The Brazos Valley TAGD has
a large number of members for it's size. Our component covers an area from
College Station to Huntsville and south to Conroe. We're proud of the fact
that for a component of our size, an exceptional number of our members are
state and national leaders. Dr. John Chandler is president-elect of the national
AGD. Dr. Ralph Cooley is immediate past president of the Texas AGD. Dr. Ann
Behrends serves on the TAGD Board of Directors, and Bill Birdwell is 2001
Texas Dentist of the year. Brazos Valley TAGD holds two meetings annually.
One meeting is usually the first Friday in November. The second meeting is
combined with the Brazos Valley District Dental Society and is held the first
weekend in March. We also hold small informal gatherings several times a year
and choose our subject matter based on members wants and needs. Brazos Valley
TAGD has hosted notable speakers such as John Burgess, Parker Mahan, and others.
